Because sometimes, despite grumbling and avoidance, characters age.
It occurred to Accolon the other day that he was betting older. If the fact that he had two grandkids wasn't evidence enough.
He's still fairly young by the standards of his people (evolution has given them certain advantages). He just can't walk around looking like a 20-something. It's life. People get older.
And so he's made a few changes. He stopped trying to tame his hair. That's it's natural texture. He also stopped cutting it. (Where he's from, men earn their hair length. He may wear it shorter than earned, but not one inch longer.) There are a few more lines on his face. And then there's the beard. I think it's great. He remains unconvinced about half the time.
It will still take some fussing (mostly from him), but he's in a good visual place right now.

Suits him! And does the aging trick well. Also that light texturing on his skin. I love that long crease down his cheek so very much. Think you did an excellent job balancing a few more decades with Accolon's inherent handsomeness. Yay!
Love this guy's hair color, and the cultural note. Oh, hey- so there's like a red and gold thing just under his hairline? Knowing you my first impulse is that there's some ink hiding under there, or is it a trick of the light?
that is really a style I could love ♥
Nice "looking-like-a-real-man" man!
I love drawing bigger burlier men. There seems to be a lack of them sometimes.
More manly men for deviant art! ^^
Haha Its adorable that he's uncertain about the facial hair, I mean i think it suits him but I know what it can be like to have a new sort of addition or change to your look and be half in love with it and half mortified by it. It's a very nice look for him and I am thrilled to see his portrait in my inbox <3
Thanks much!
