The Longest Angel

The original commission from was for a Dachshund. No problem! I love puppies! I went through a few sketches and nothing was really jumping out at me. And then I remembered the love I feel when I read what she's written in comments and such about a beloved Dachshund friend and companion. I never met Kato. But the way she described him made me want to say some very squeaky things to him, rub his long belly and spoil him with treats. So I set out to draw not just any dog, but this special little guy.

I know what it is to lose a canine friend. I can't say exactly what it is to others because grief, loss and love are different for everyone and intensely personal. But I am sure he's in heaven wagging his tail around the feet of angels with my own Casey and Charleen. Wagging so hard his whole body goes with it.

A marble statue a mile high would be a trifle compared to the joy, love and light animal companions bring to our lives. But I thought I would try to make something beautiful to honor the adorable and beloved friend and companion Kato.
