So now my hard work has paid off. I am coming to you from a brand new customized computer.
No more laptop curmudgeon for me! No, I'm on to bigger and better things.
I now have about four times the processing power, more than three times the memory, and the screen ... even though this one is temporary, is bigger than my entire laptop was. I'm going to have an Office Space moment with the old one, I think.
I've never known such speed. I swear it's been almost religious. I'm seeing greens and reds as they are for the first time on a screen. How remarkable.
So I've said goodbye to Bookman the Brown (yes, I name my computers. no, I'm not ashamed of that).
Now I'm working with Master Chief. It's a bit of a lofty name. I'm aware ... but it fits. The case is big, green, and metal and designed to look like military equipment. Easy access, no nonsense, very efficient, optimized for the task at hand, and nearly silent. What really put it together for me is that the processor (essentially the brain) has a big fan over it that glows bright blue, which means he even has a Cortana. See where I'm going with this? Well, I thought it was appropriate.
I'm going to do some test art in the next few days. I know I have two commissions on deck, but I'm uncomfortable doing them with a different screen size and a screen with different color settings. Once I'm comfortable with it, then I'll get back on them.
After that, I'll be doing a commission drive to get the screen I really want. It's $400 ... and then some after tax, but it's amazing. I can actually rotate the screen to portrait format (as opposed to the standard landscape) for working on art that's taller than it is wide, which is pretty common for me. The colors have all been balanced, meaning I won't have to fuss with it, and the resolution on it is higher than most. I'm so excited about this thing, I almost thought to ask for donations. But that's not the way I want to go with this. Can't get something for nothing. Nor would I want to. I worked and earned this computer and I want to do the same for the last part of it. I'll just feel better about it in the end.
Finally, some good news.
Last thing before I go, here.
You'd all be missing out if I didn't showcase the commission I got recently:

drew Travis for me. I love this because I always wanted to see what he'd do with this character of mine, and I'm absolutely thrilled with it!

Hail to The Chief,
-Nuisance
(I hope it has intel inside.)
Ah screens- I need to buy one myself quite soon - the one I'm using now is starting to loose light (to the point I can't see anything for half an hour after turning it on :V) What model are you looking at?
I work best on a PC as well. There's nothing wrong with a mac ... it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
The screen is a Dell 24" LED U2412 monitor. I'm currently on a *huge* ViewSonic. It's a few years old, but it's really nice as well. The adjustment to a bigger screen size has thrown me for a loop. I don't know what to do with all the space!
